Many people have computers that come installed with WinRest™ so they may never have to install it. However, you may need to install WinRest™ if :

* You've replaced your hard disk drive with a new hard disk drive that does not have WinRest™ installed
* You are reinstalling WinRest™ on a computer because you want to clean off your hard drive
* You've purchased a point of sale system without WinRest™
* You are adding another point of sale station

Before you begin the installation process, use this pre-installation checklist:

* You have installed an activated your version of Windows XP®, Windows 7®, etc.
* You have access to your WinRest™ .lic file, or your WinRest™ license code
* Your computer hardware is set up
* You have removed removed any and all Microsoft Frameworks
* You have installed Microsoft Frameworks® 3.5
* You have installed Firebird® SQL 2.0 on the Server (System hosting the database)

 

 

 

 

Installing WinRest™ for the first time

Installing WinRest™ is quick and easy and the process takes as little as 10 minutes. Follow this step-by-step guide to get started with WinRest™ right away.

1. Download WinRest installer to your computer.
2. Run the "setup.exe" file within the installer package.
3. Once installed, run the "WinRest.exe" desktop shortcut.
4. When prompted to connect to database, press "create."


Installing WinRest™ on Windows 7®, 8 Pro®, 8.1Pro®, 10 Pro®
1. Download WinRest installer to your computer.
2. Run the "setup.exe" file within the installer package.
3. Once installed, access the desktop shortcut icon properties.
4. On the compatibility tab and select select Windows XP SP3.
5. Also, select disbale visual themes, desktop composition
6. Also, select run this program as an administrator
7. Run WinRest.exe and when prompted to connect to database, press "create."

Upgrading to the latest version of WinRest™
1. IMPORTANT* Backup your original WinRest™ program file directory.
2. Download the latest WinRest™ installer to your computer.
3. Run the "setup.exe" file within the installer package.
4. Once installed, run the "WinRest.exe" desktop shortcut.
5. When prompted to connect to database, press "create."
6. Copy your database file from the original WinRest database folder.
7. Paste your original database file into the new database folder.
8. Run WinRest™.





License and Activation

Activating WinRest™ via the Internet
1. Access the Options Screen from within WinRest™.
2. Go to the System Settings utility.
3. In the bottom left corner, press the License Button.
4. Enter in your license code and press 'update'.


You may need to contact an authorized WinRest advisor for your license code.

 

Activating WinRest™ with your license file
1. Access and download your "License.lic" file from www.winrestsoftware.com
2. Go to the WinRest™ program file directory.
3. Overwrite/replace the "License.lic" in the folder.
4. Start WinRest™.

Post Installation
After installing WinRest and creating a new database, one will have to add devices, create menu groups, items, modifiers, create/edit the room layouts and buttons using the built in utilities like Global Settings, the Button Library and Room Settings utilities. Explore the User Manual to learn how to utilize each feature that will be needed.
